There are plenty of things about Indians that typically stand out from the rest of the world, which is kept unique to them. From sharp facial features to an even sharper tongue, the list is endless. Today I’m writing about that one special thing out of many that is envied by the rest of the world – the Indian hair, which is generally thick, lustrous and darker in colour. I have recreated a few hairstyles below using BBLUNT products which are specially designed for Indian hair and weather. These are simplistic and easy to do at home with minimum fuss for the varied Indian weather and complement our facial features. Let’s get started!
1. Bouffant. Courtesy of Asha Parekh & Sharmila Tagore, who immortalized the Bouffant. This 60’s and 70’sinspired style still looks totally stunning today. Pull out your teasing comb and volumizing products to sculpt this classic do. Here is how to obtain this Mumtaz-inspired bouffant: Start by washing your hair with BBLUNT Perfect Balance Shampoo & Conditioner for Normal to Dry Hair to get a perfectly cleansed and healthy hair. Now it’s time for teasing the crown. Using your rat tail comb again, tease the crown portion of your hair. The bigger the better. Now just grab this section and pin it in the back. To add more grace, just take one section each from both sides, start twisting them and pin them together at the back. To secure your bouffant, use more than just a few bobby pins (exactly the same shade as your hair to disguise them). Spray your hair with BBLUNT Spotlight Hair Polish for Instant Shine to get a glossy and shiny finished look. Coat your lashes with mascara and head out! And boom you’re ready to step out with your bouffant to the wedding Sangeet tonight.
2. Loose Waves/Curls Hairstyle Be it a high school farewell or your mother’s cousin’s daughter’s wedding, curls are every Indian woman’s best bet. Loosely done waves or curls look bouncy with a full volume, enhancing the beauty of the Indian face. And guess what? Curls are the easiest to get and maintain in the extreme Indian weather. Neatly cut layers by a stylist with voluminous curls or waves, teamed up with a saree is all you need to make your look more glamorous. Here’s how I usually get my curls going: I essentially trust my BBLUNT High Definition Curl, Curl-Defining Leave-In Cream to give my waves a much-deserved loving. After shampooing my hair, I rub three pumps of the cream to my damp hair. Then scrunch and twirl, repeatedly. And there I have it! As simple as that! I recommend you all to try to maintain the natural curls of your hair. If you have naturally straight hair, you could still curl/wave it by applying the BBLUNT High Definition Curl Defining Leave-In Cream, and using an iron?? (or curling wand) on top of it. Carefully blow drying the hair in sections makes the hair look even more bouncy. You will look gorgeous when you sport this style by letting either or both sides fall on your shoulders, and on a matching saree. To add a bit more of a spunk, you can spray the BBLUNT One Night Stand Temporary Hair Colour which come in 5 different shades.
3. Side Braid The side braid is a classical style that has been around for ages and doesn’t seem to be leaving the Indian fashion anytime soon. This style is especially for the hardworking Indian woman who likes to keep it neat and easy to carry. There are plenty of braiding styles to choose from, but here I am going to experiment with a fish-tail braid. Fish tail braids can be done in different varieties, giving you a trendy chic appearance. Start by applying BBLUNT Climate Control Anti-Frizz Leave-In Cream on damp hair to smoothen it and to keep the flyaways at bay. Divide your hair into a side parting and take the whole length of your hair over to one side. Begin by splitting the hair into two sections. Take a small piece of hair from the outside of one of the two main sections and bring it to the inside of the opposite section. Then take a small piece of hair from the outside of the other section and bring it to the inside of the opposite section, then pull tight. Keep taking small pieces from each side into the inside of each section to develop the inverted braided pattern. Keep going until you reach the end and finish by tying the hair with a clear elastic band. Fishtail braids look best with a slept-in look so tease the braid by pulling out some strands for a more textured look.
4. Elegant Updo Hairstyles Hair-do’s like a neat bun will give you a supremely elegant look. Indian women are seen sporting this on any and every occasion, from a wedding to the Filmfare Awards. This updo goes best with a sleek saree and exaggerated eyes. Here is how I achieved my elegant bun for a friend’s reception: My hair had become sweaty and greasy after a long day at work. So I began by spritzing my hair with BBLUNT Back to Life Dry Shampoo For Instant Freshness which instantly revamped my hair by absorbing all the grease & grime, and my hair was ready to be styled. I pulled all of my hair into a low side ponytail and secured it with an elastic band. Then I took a hair donut and inserted the ponytail through the donut. Now I took the ends of the ponytail and wrapped them over the donut and started turning the donut inside out moving upwards grabbing more hair. Then I keep twisting the donut till I reached the base of my pony, and secured it into a bun with hair pins. Finally I sprayed some of the BBLUNT Spotlight Hair Polish For Instant shine for the finishing touch & gloss. You can also choose to decorate your hair with a bunch of flowers over the bun to add that extra ethnic touch. Voila! Here are the 4 best hairstyles that I think work best for Indian women and weather.
They complement our Indian facial features and look wondrous with our traditional saree and jewelry. The best part is, BBLUNT has made it so easy for us to achieve these out-of-the-salon look at the comfort of our homes.
